Julia Peirone was born in Argentina in 1973 and her family relocated to Stockholm, Sweden in 1976. Julia remembers acclimating to her new culture by taking mental pictures of the gestures, postures and expressions around her. This process of watching and then imitating has continued and become one of her methods of art making.
Julia documents her every day surroundings then deconstructs the images only to reconstruct them, creating her own story. The figures in her images exist in their own time and place; unaware of whom they share their compositions with. The images are both humorous and lonely.
Julia has exhibited widely in Europe and made her US debut at DCFA in the spring of 2006. Her solo exhibitions include Galerie F 5.6, Munich; Brandstrom & Stene, Stockholm; Gallery Drista Mikkola, Helsinki and Hassleholms Kulturhus, Hassleholm among others. She has been included in museum exhibitions at Kerava Art Museum, Finland; Museum of Umea University, Sweden and Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm.
